The Council meets every six weeks to discuss matters such as the activities of its committees, matters of concern to attorneys practicing in the province and current and future projects. When necessary feedback on the discussions held at these meetings is communicated to attorneys practicing in the province.
All the local newspapers that are published in the Mpumalanga Province will be participating in an initiative, launched by the Council, to publish law supplements during August of 2009. The purpose of this initiative is not only to create marketing opportunities for attorneys, but also to educate members of the public on legal matters and their rights, thus fulfilling the Council's aim to inform the public.
As part of the Mpumalanga Attorneys Council's commitment to reaching out to local communities, a bursary trust was established which enables indigent students to study towards a legal degree at a recognised South African University. The first bursaries were awarded at the end of 2005. During the 2005, 2006 and 2007 selection process bursaries were awarded to a total of six students. At the end of 2008 bursaries were awarded to three students.
A Charity Golf Day is presented annually to raise funds for the Bursary the Fund. Members of the attorneys' profession in Mpumalanga as well as their clients participate in the golf day and the proceeds from registration fees and sponsorships are donated to the Bursary Fund. The 2009 Annual Charity Golf Day will be hosted on Saturday 15 August 2009 at the Graceland Golf Course in Secunda and will coincide with the Mpumalanga Attorneys Council Annual General meeting, which will be held on Friday 14 August 2009.
